Bus Shelter
This project explores ways to make active travel more accessible for the ageing population, particularly in rural areas where mobility challenges are common. Research identified key issues, including limited infrastructure, discomfort while waiting for buses, and mobility constraints, which contribute to reduced independence and isolation.
Through interviews, questionnaires, and participatory shadowing, findings revealed a lack of shelter, seating, and accessibility, making public transport difficult for elderly users. The proposed solution focuses on redesigning bus shelters with better protection, seating, and integrated technology to improve comfort, encourage mobility, and enhance the travel experience.
Presentation Boards
The first board introduces the mobility challenges faced by the ageing population in rural areas, highlighting limited transport infrastructure, accessibility issues, and discomfort using public transport. A scenario illustrates the barriers elderly users face when commuting.
The second board presents research insights and design opportunities, identifying key issues in infrastructure, comfort, and accessibility. The proposed solution focuses on redesigning bus shelters with better protection, seating, and real-time travel updates to improve elderly users' travel experience and encourage active mobility.
